US Representative Adam Kinziger accused members of his Republican Party of "hypocrisy";

For their defense of former President Donald Trump's handling of classified documents, the lawmaker said US national security "wasn't close to Trump's heart."

Kenziger is one of two Republicans who participated in the congressional investigation into the attack by Trump supporters on the Capitol on January 6, 2021, in protest of the results of the presidential election in which Trump was defeated by his Democratic opponent, Joe Biden.

The storming of Congress came after Trump repeated accusations of widespread election fraud in favor of Biden, accusations rejected by the American judiciary at all levels when Trump filed many lawsuits to challenge its results in a number of states.

Kinziger said - during an interview with the American network "NBC" - that "Members of my party spent years chanting "Lock her up (in reference to Hillary Clinton, because of emails when she was Secretary of State)... Now they rose to defend A man (referring to Trump) who is quite clear that the national security of the United States was not close to his heart...that is hypocrisy."

Trump home search

Last Friday, the US Department of Justice published a version of a redacted statement that helped it obtain a court order to search Trump's home in Florida on August 8.

The affidavit revealed that law enforcement was investigating possible criminal activity that included obstruction of justice after secret documents were found at Trump's residence, which he took when he left the White House on Biden's inauguration.

Trump says he did nothing wrong and is under political attack, criticizing the search of his home.

Trump and many Republicans over the years have reprimanded Hillary Clinton, the former secretary of state and Trump's 2016 presidential rival, for using a private email in official communications, some of which contained classified information.

The former US president led political rallies during which his supporters chanted anti-Hillary Clinton slogans, including the phrase "lock her up."
