Ulf Kristersson, party leader for the Moderates takes a harsh tone when he is in Eskilstuna.

He says that the criminal gangs are "absolutely ruthless" and he wants to stop them "just as ruthlessly".

- These people should be locked up or thrown out of the country if they are not Swedish citizens.

There are no other options, he says in an interview with SVT.

Andersson: "We need a national collection"

The Social Democrats' party leader and Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson is also calling for a tougher approach to gang crime and the increasing number of shootings.

On the other hand, she emphasizes that the whole of society must cooperate - the politicians in a cross-party way, the police through increased presence and tougher punishments and municipalities that must work at all levels.

- This is an attack on the whole of society and then the whole of society must defend itself, says the Prime Minister.

But above all, she urges civil society to do more:

- Don't look between your fingers if you know someone is using drugs, because it also fuels crime, says the prime minister.

More needs to be done

Magdalena Andersson believes that the government has worked very hard in recent years to expand the police and toughen penalties, but there is more to do.

Among other things, she wants to make it illegal for adults to recruit young people into crime.

Ulf Kristersson, however, thinks that the government has used up the time to prevent crime.

According to him, there must now be "a massive fight" against the criminals and for this to happen, the current government cannot remain in office.

- New legislation is required and new legislation requires a new government, he says.
