Libya is rocked by increasing violence and political discord.

During Saturday, at least 13 people were killed and 95 were injured as a result of clashes between political opponents, TT reports.

"Deeply concerned"

The clashes mainly took place in the capital Tripoli, which was shaken by explosions and shelling, among other things.

Six hospitals are said to have been hit and, according to the authorities, ambulances have had difficulty reaching the areas affected by the fighting.

Famous actor Mustafa Baraka has also been killed in one of the residential areas where the fighting has been going on, which has led to outrage and sadness on social media.

The US Embassy in Libya said in a statement that it was "deeply concerned" about the clashes.

The conflict threatens to grow

The reason for the conflict is based on the fact that there are two rival political groups who are fighting for their respective prime ministers.

Both groups accuse each other of being responsible for the ongoing fighting and have posted images of a burning mosque, bullet-riddled buildings and burnt-out cars.

The ongoing political crisis threatens to further exacerbate the conflicts in the country.

Unrest has been ongoing in the country since former dictator Muammar Gaddafi was overthrown and killed in 2011 and the House of Representatives was moved from the capital Tripoli to Tobruk in 2014.
