Latifa bint Mohammed meets members of the Arab ICOM at the ICOM 2022 General Conference

Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairwoman of the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) and member of the Dubai Council, held a meeting with members of the Arab ICOM, which includes the Arab members of the International Council of Museums, on the sidelines of the General Conference of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) 2022" to be held in the Czech capital, Prague.

The meeting came as part of the program of the official delegation of the UAE to ICOM Prague 2022, as Dubai prepares to host the General Conference of the Council in 2025, making it the first city in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia to host the ICOM conference.

During the meeting with the Arab members of the Council, Her Highness Sheikha Latifa was briefed on the experiences of all members in the region, in addition to discussing challenges, opportunities and potential areas of cooperation. Her Highness praised the work done by the International Council of Arab Museums to represent the region for years on this international platform.

Her Highness added: "We must all unite as an Arab nation to preserve and advance the rich cultural heritage of our region and continue developing the region's museums. The UAE recognizes the importance of museums as vital centers of knowledge and communication with our societies, and their importance in the creative and broader cultural sector, and is committed to developing them. The International Conference on Museums will be 2025, which will be hosted by Dubai, is the right moment for the wider MENASA region to draw the world’s attention to what this region has and is capable of.”

The meeting was attended by Sharqi Dahmali, President of Arab Aecom and Vice President of Aecom Morocco, Osama Abdel Meguid, President of Aecom Egypt, Rashad Bukhash, Vice President of Arab Aecom and founder of Aecom Emirates, Ahmed Mahmoud from Aecom Emirates, and Sundus Al-Rashed, President of Aecom Kuwait Rana Al-Sheikh from Icom Saudi Arabia, Ibtisam Al-Wahaibi from the Saudi Ministry of Culture, Jihad Kafafi and Yousha Al-Omari from Icom Jordan, and Dr.

Rashid Mulhaiya from Aecom Qatar, Yaroub Al Abdullah, and Osama Al Rawas from Aecom Oman, former director of the Damascus Museum, and Dr.

For his part, Chergui El Dehamali, President of Arab Aicom and Vice President of Aecom Morocco, said: “With Dubai hosting this major international event as the first city in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia region since the founding of Aecom in 1946, the Arab Museums Organization will continue to support the committee. The organizers of the ICOM Dubai 2025 conference, especially in preparing the scientific program for the conference, to ensure the strong participation of Arab museums in this prestigious global event.”

The meeting was part of the official meetings program of the mission headed by Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. During her visit to Prague, she was accompanied by a high-level Emirati delegation that included Her Excellency Reem Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation, and Her Excellency Hala Badri, Director General of Dubai Culture.
