On farms, the life of a dairy cow usually lasts about five years, in exceptional cases it is sometimes 15. At the Eichhof near Bad Hersfeld, Agnes was able to celebrate her 20th birthday with a few extra strokes.

According to the company, twentieth birthdays are usually celebrated by trainees, but the age of a dairy cow is considered unique.

However, Agnes has been retired for two years, having given birth to 14 calves on the farm and giving 137,000 liters of milk, up to 11,000 liters in a year.

This also makes her an exception, because dairy cows are usually not given a bread of grace or grass.

On the contrary, their lives usually end after they have reached the 100,000 liter mark and thus after ten years at the latest in the slaughterhouse.

But the black and white Agnes is the pride of milker master Andreas Quack and herd manager Annika Kempf and is allowed to spend the rest of her life on the pasture next to the stable.
