First winter tires and snow chains, now padlocks: When it comes to metaphors of the Corona rules for autumn and winter, the responsible ministers are bursting with creativity.

But only there.

Because the slightly modified draft of the Infection Protection Act contains hardly any new ideas apart from a third picture.

Justice Minister Marco Buschmann (FDP) attests to himself and his cabinet colleague, Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD), a fair amount of “procedural wisdom”.

But the criticism that the withdrawal of the federal government in the Corona policy leads to an inconsistent approach by the states has no consequences.

Furthermore, from October it will be decided in the state capitals what everyday Corona looks like.

As far as this is concerned, the Minister of Health stands by his expectation that the countries will come to similar assessments of the pandemic and draw appropriate conclusions from them.

He does not say where Lauterbach gets this confidence from.

It can't be experience, because that teaches the opposite.

Loss of credibility all

If he were wrong, the government would lose credibility.

That would not be a problem for party strategists alone, but for many citizens, since the effectiveness of the measures also depends on the broad public recognizing them as correct.

Equal must be treated equally.

Any deviation from this principle is evil.

Of course not everything is bad.

It's good that the federal government is protecting patients and is scrapping a nonsensical rule.

Even the awkward exception when wearing a mask in bars for "freshly" vaccinated and recovered people is no longer mandatory.

There is no question that at some point the day will have to come when Corona will be treated like other infectious diseases.

But the virus is still changing rapidly.

There is still a lack of experience with immune protection that would enable sovereignty in dealing with Corona.

Time will tell.

Until then, someone in Berlin will surely come up with a metaphor to translate this situation into an image.
