Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin welcomed this Wednesday the results of the Paris police headquarters on the hot crack file in the capital with 128 arrests in one month and announced that he will travel to West Africa. the West.

Between July 20 and August 20, 128 people were arrested, i.e. three times more than last year at the same period, indicated the Minister, specifying that the "volume of crack seized in fifteen days corresponds to the totality of the volume that was seized during the year 2021".

“It's good, but it's not enough, you know you're going to have to hit a lot harder, the crack doesn't need to be reduced but destroyed,” said Gérald Darmanin, saying that crack “remains the biggest subject in Paris”.

Dismantling of networks

When Laurent Nunez arrived at the Prefecture of Police last month, Gérald Darmanin asked the new prefect to "propose solutions for the start of the school year to fight definitively against this scourge" of crack, a substance derived from cocaine.

“The will of the prefect of police is to dismantle the crack market in the open air and we will not tolerate that it is reconstituted elsewhere”, continued the minister on Wednesday in front of the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, during the ceremony of the 78th anniversary of the liberation of Paris at the Prefecture of Police.

A meeting between the prefect of police, of the Ile-de-France region and the stakeholders of the crack plan, will also be organized in several days.

"We must dismantle the networks, I will soon be going to West Africa to have a frank dialogue with the countries concerned and create the conditions for the very rapid return of traffickers to their countries of origin", also announced Mr. Darmanin , adding that he wanted to challenge consumers in the streets.

In addition, the Minister of the Interior announced 200 million euros to prepare security during the 2024 Olympics in France, in particular for the "anti-drone strategy", "the terrorist threat of tomorrow" according to the minister.
