Trump asks for independent expert to examine documents confiscated from his home

Former US President Donald Trump has asked the US judiciary to appoint an independent expert to examine documents seized from his home by FBI investigators, to determine whether some of them can be kept secret and therefore not used in investigations.

"The raid on August 8 by FBI investigators in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, was unlawful and unconstitutional, and we will do everything we can to recover the documents," Trump said in a statement.

In a judicial review in which he reiterated that he was being targeted for political reasons, Trump requested the appointment of an independent expert to examine the documents the FBI seized from his home and determine which of them he could keep "secret" and therefore could not be used in investigations.

In his statement, Trump confirmed that investigators took documents protected by the principle of confidentiality that protects correspondence between the client and his attorney.

According to a list of assets that the FBI seized from Trump's home, several documents were classified as "top secret."

According to the seven-page memo, among the seized documents were documents bearing the stamp of "top secret" and "supposed to be kept only in special government facilities."
