- The FIFA World Cup has cast a shadow over the current academic year in Qatar, after the Ministry of Education and Higher Education decided to bring the school year early to start tomorrow, Sunday, and the mid-year vacation would coincide with the start of the World Cup.

The new dates for the school year in Qatar are not surprising. Over the past five years, the country's Ministry of Education has sought to gradually advance the start of the school year from year to year.

It is known that the new academic year will be punctuated by the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, an event that Qatar and its Arab surroundings have experienced for 12 years, during which the country witnessed major changes in infrastructure, and became the focus of the world’s attention, and it is hosting this tournament for the first time in the region This year coincides with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of formal education in the State of Qatar.

225,000 male and female students attend 212 public schools and kindergartens, and more than 215,000 attend 338 private schools and kindergartens;

The school year in Qatar 2022-2023 extends from August 21 to mid-June 2023, and includes the mid-year vacation, which will begin for the first time less than a week before the start of the World Cup on November 15 and extend until December 25, to be a period The World Cup is a holiday for educational institutions in the country.

The most important of which is giving students the opportunity to participate in the World Cup matches and events, as well as relieving traffic pressure on roads and facilities, and helping the state’s goal of making that period an open celebration in all parts of Qatar.

The Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Qatar divided the grades of the academic year into the two semesters, but in unequal proportions. The first semester received only 40% of the total grades for the year, due to the short period of this semester, while the second semester received 60% of the grades.
