Leader Thierry Neuville and fifth Craig Breen crashed and were forced to retire.

Gus Greensmith with Värmland map reader Jonas Andersson also drove off the road, damaged the car and slipped far down the results list.

Oliver Solberg started the day seventh but advanced to fourth place overall.

He had some problems with the car understeering in the morning on the narrow and technical sections, but after changing the differential at the service it flowed better.

Advantage Solberg in the fight for fourth place

Solberg had an exciting second fight with Adrien Fourmaux throughout the day.

For a while, only 1.5 seconds separated the two.

But for tomorrow, Solberg has an advantage, fourth 14.3 seconds ahead of fifth placed Forumaux, who incurred a time extension during the afternoon due to late arrival to stage 15.

- I didn't think I would hold the fight so well because I know he is good on asphalt.

But I am very satisfied, says Solberg
