All buildings owned by the state, the regions or the municipalities must have solar panels on the roof during the next term, if the Green Party decides.

An investment that is estimated to cost the state SEK 48 billion

Many are worried about acutely rising electricity prices, how will this help them?

- Solar cells are the fastest way to ensure that there is new renewable electricity as quickly as possible, says spokesperson Per Bolund (MP).

Wants the government to borrow money

Earlier this year, the European Commission expressed its desire to increase the number of solar panels on both public and private buildings, and in June the Social Democrats said they wanted to investigate the issue.

But now the Environmental Party is moving forward with an election promise that solar panels should be installed as quickly as possible on all public buildings, starting in southern Sweden where electricity is the most expensive.

The proposal is expected to be able to generate 4 TWh per year, which is roughly the same amount of electricity used in Örebro County.

The cost is estimated to be a total of SEK 48 billion over the next four years, money that the Green Party wants the state to borrow.

We are heading for a recession, is it really responsible to borrow money for an investment like this?

- When there is a recession, it is also extra good to make government investments, especially when in this case you also get the financial benefit of lower electricity prices, which benefits both industry and the household economy, says Per Bolund (MP) .
