Russia vowed, today, Tuesday, Lithuania to respond after it prevented the transit of goods towards the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad, while the European Union called on Moscow to solve the problem diplomatically.

Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev said that Russia will respond as soon as possible to the ban imposed by Lithuania on the transit of goods and merchandise to the Russian province of Kaliningrad.

Patrushev added that the Russian response measures will have consequences and a very negative impact on the residents of Lithuania, as he put it.

For its part, the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that Lithuania's ban on the transit of goods through its territory to the Kaliningrad region is an outright hostile act.

Today, Tuesday, the Russian Foreign Ministry summoned the ambassador of the European Union to submit a protest note to him, due to Lithuania's restriction of transit of goods to the Russian province of Kaliningrad.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that it had asked the ambassador to return work to normal, noting that it would take measures in response if the union did not respond to its demands.

On the other hand, the ambassador of the European Union said that he asked Moscow to solve the problem of crossing to Kaliningrad diplomatically.

This comes amid Western fears that Lithuania is on the list of Russian targets after Ukraine.

In the midst of this tension, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz affirmed, today, Tuesday, his country's strong support for Lithuania and its eastern European allies, reiterating his country's support for Sweden and Finland's request to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

During his speech at the Industry Day conference organized on the repercussions of the war on Ukraine, Schultz said that - what he called - the "Russian aggressive war" on Ukraine is a major blow to the European peace system and a flagrant violation of international law, stressing that Germany will continue to send weapons to Ukraine as long as It is necessary.
