Guterres visits Odessa to witness the resumption of grain exports

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres visited the Ukrainian city of Odessa on Friday to witness the resumption of the recently launched grain exports.

Guterres said the resumption of food exports following an agreement with Russia was good, but he was also sad to see that the port's ship terminals were virtually empty, according to the United Nations press service.

At the same time, he praised the agreement concluded in July between Russia and Ukraine mediated by the United Nations and Turkey.

He stated that more than 600,000 tons of grain were shipped from Ukraine in less than a month on board 25 ships.

Guterres stressed the need to ensure access to Ukrainian and Russian food exports, according to the United Nations.

He added that exporting more food and fertilizer from Ukraine and Russia is important for the sake of commodity and price markets.

He explained that no one expected that implementing the initiative would be easy.
