He noted that the IAEA is an independent agency, it is its leadership that should decide how and when to visit the facility and how to conduct an inspection.

“Decisions on these issues are the decisions of the IAEA, of course, with the consent of the parties, with the consent of the government of Ukraine,” Guterres said.

The UN Secretary General recalled that the secretariat of the world organization in Ukraine has the ability to assist in ensuring security and the passage of the IAEA from Kyiv to the ZNPP, if necessary.

He also called for the demilitarization of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said that the cessation of shelling is the key to the trip of the IAEA to the ZNPP.
