"Turkey's President's visit to Ukraine is a powerful message of support from such an important country," Volodymyr Zelensky said on Telegram.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan was particularly alarmed by the danger of a “new Chernobyl”, due to the situation around the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.

The UN, for its part, wants to “intensify” Ukrainian grain exports before the onset of winter.

The three men addressed the "need for a political solution" to the conflict, according to UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric.

While receiving Secretary General Antonio Guterres, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on the UN to protect the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, occupied by Russia.

On Telegram, the leader recalls the "deliberate terror" caused by Russia, which "can have major catastrophic consequences for the whole world".

Shelling continues in northeastern Ukraine.
