This was stated by Deputy Director of the First Department of Asia of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maxim Volkov at an event in honor of the 20th anniversary of the visit of the former leader of the republic Kim Jong Il to the Russian Far East.

“Russia highly appreciates the principled position of the leadership of the DPRK, which from the very beginning strongly supported the Russian special military operation in the Donbass and the decision to officially recognize the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics,” Volkov was quoted by TASS.

On July 13, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea recognized the independence of the Luhansk People's Republic, as well as the Donetsk People's Republic.

Russian Ambassador to North Korea Alexander Matsegora said that the DPRK and the Republic of Donbass have broad prospects for cooperation.
