China News Service, Nanchang, August 18 (Reporter Jiang Tao) Affected by the continuous high temperature and little rain, the water level of Poyang Lake, China's largest freshwater lake, continued to decline, the area of the water body connected to the river continued to "shrink", and the drought in the lake area continued.

According to the real-time hydrological data at 10:00 on the 18th, the water level of Xingzi Station, an iconic hydrological station of Poyang Lake, was 10.12 meters, which was 6.50 meters lower than the same period of the previous year.

The Tongjiang water body in the lake area is 745 square kilometers, a decrease of 2,195 square kilometers compared with the same period last year.

At the junction of the Yangtze River and Poyang Lake in Hukou County, Jiangxi Province, a large tidal flat appeared on the once wide water surface, and the waterway became narrow.

During the high water season, Xueshan Island, located in the heart of Poyang Lake, and its karst caves under the island are all exposed to the water surface, and the surrounding lake bed is "transformed" into an oasis "prairie".

"This landscape can only be seen in December every year. In August of last year, it was still a season of high water. Boats can directly lean against the gate of Xueshan Island. Now boats can only lean against the beach." Yang Fan, the relevant person in charge of Xueshan Scenic Spot in Hukou County Say.

The reporter learned from the Hukou County Water Conservancy Bureau on the same day that 20 of the 50 reservoirs in the county are close to drying up. Overlooking the Yuejin Reservoir located in Huajian Village, Dayong Township, Hukou County, the area of the water body has shrunk by more than half, and the soil around the reservoir has shrunk by more than half. It has been in a dry and cracked state, and the gate is covered with grass.

Liu Shaofan, director of Huajian Village in Dayong Township, said that in order to "quench their thirst" for the more than 1,000 mu of rice and cotton fields in the village, local villagers pumped, released and irrigated water from a medium-sized reservoir with a relatively large storage area.

"We also plan to drill five wells to divert water to fight drought."

As of August 15, the drought disaster has affected 1.382 million people in 83 counties (cities, districts, including functional areas) in Jiangxi Province.

In view of the current drought situation, Jiangxi Province has launched a level IV emergency response to drought since 16:00 on August 16.

During the "Mo Fu" season, the high temperature "baking" test will continue in most parts of southern China. The Central Meteorological Observatory continued to issue a high temperature red warning at 6 o'clock on the 18th, and the highest temperature in some parts of central Jiangxi and other places could reach above 40 ℃.
