In the past year alone, Sweden has seen three school shootings, most recently in March at the Malmö Latin high school, when two teachers died.

This has caused Köping to act.

The new security system in Köping involves, among other things, an app where you can alert colleagues and reach all necessary personnel and the blue light service in the event of a fire, threat or ongoing violence.

- I think that an incident usually lasts between 5-10 minutes on average.

Then it is important to be able to reach each other, says Thomas Karlsson, head of administration in the municipality of Köping.

"We have had incidents"

At the same time, the high school head, Anna Ulfves, says that surveys show that students in Köping experience the school as very safe.

- But we have had incidents, we have had thefts or vandalism in the evenings and we do not want to accept that, says Anna Ulfves.

Sees the investment as necessary

According to Thomas Karlsson, the cost of the app is up to SEK 200,000 annually.

Is this necessary, considering the costs?

- I think the most important thing is to be prepared.

The consequence of events like this is so incredibly tragic and you can't put a price tag on it.
