China News Service, Beijing, August 18 (Reporter Ying Ni) Lu Yingchuan, vice minister of the Chinese Ministry of Culture and Tourism, said in Beijing on the 18th that since 2012, China's tourism revenue has grown by an average of about 10.6% annually.

Despite the severe impact of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, tourism has experienced great fluctuations, but it does not change the status of tourism as a pillar industry of the national economy.

The Propaganda Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China held a series of press conferences on the theme of "China's Decade" in Beijing on the 18th, introducing the measures and achievements of propaganda and cultural work in the new era.

Lu Yingchuan said that in the past ten years, with the leap-forward improvement of the level of economic development and changes in people's living needs, the tourism industry has developed rapidly, its scale has continued to expand, and its quality has continued to improve. Tourism has become an important way of living in a well-off society. The status of the strategic pillar industry of the national economy has also been consolidated.

This is reflected in the following aspects:

First, the scale of the industry continues to expand.

Since 2012, China's tourism revenue has grown at an average annual rate of about 10.6%. In 2019, the total revenue reached 6.63 trillion yuan (RMB, the same below), and the added value of tourism and related industries was 4.5 trillion yuan, accounting for about 4.56% of GDP.

In the past two years, despite the severe impact of the new crown pneumonia epidemic and great fluctuations in tourism, in general, the pillar status in the national economic structure has not changed.

Second, from the perspective of product supply, tourism products have become more optimized and richer in formats over the past decade.

For example, the number of A-level tourist attractions in the country, which was 6,042 in 2012, will increase to 14,332 in 2021.

At the same time, 671 national-level and provincial-level tourist resorts, 1,299 key villages and towns in rural tourism, and 300 national red tourism classic scenic spots have been launched, basically forming a tourism product supply system with extensive coverage, rich formats and diverse choices.

Not only traditional sightseeing tours, but also some new forms of tourism are emerging, such as industrial tourism, traditional Chinese medicine health tourism, sports tourism, leisure and vacation tourism, ice and snow tourism, camping tourism, etc. People have more choices in diversity.

The third is to adhere to the use of cultural plastic tourism and tourism to promote culture. The cultural connotation of tourism is constantly enriched, and the cultural quality of tourism continues to improve.

Vigorously carry forward excellent traditional culture, inherit revolutionary culture, develop advanced socialist culture, and promote the promotion of socialist core values.

The fourth is to insist that tourism is for the people and driven by tourism. The rapid development of tourism has played a very important role in promoting poverty alleviation and rural revitalization.

Since 2012, the average annual growth of tourists in rural tourism has been around 20%.

He pointed out that since the outbreak of the new crown epidemic in 2020, the tourism industry has suffered a huge impact. In this regard, we have coordinated development and safety, and have successively issued a series of relief and assistance measures.

In the next step, we will continue to implement these measures in depth, adhere to the principle of tourism for the people, promote tourism, promote the accelerated recovery and high-quality development of the tourism industry, and make new and greater contributions to meeting the needs of the people for a better life and economic and social development efforts.
