On Monday August 15, the President of the Electoral Commission declared William Ruto the winner with 50.49% of the vote, against 48.85% of the vote for his opponent Raila Odinga.

The latter, who rejected these results on Tuesday, has until August 22 to file an appeal with the courts, which will then have 14 days to give its verdict.

In the meantime, the two camps are launching an assault on the National Assembly in order to obtain a crucial majority for the next president.

The results published by the Electoral Commission gave Raila Odinga

's Azimio la Umoja coalition

a narrow lead in the National Assembly: 162 MP seats against 159 for Kenya Kwanza, William Ruto's political alliance.

A twist :

William Ruto

, declared the winner of the presidential election by the president of the electoral commission, announces that ten of the twelve elected independents have joined his camp, which allows him to regain the upper hand in the National Assembly for the time being.

There are still positions to be filled before knowing the final balance of power: four local elections have been delayed because of errors in the ballot papers and 20 deputies must still be appointed to represent special interest groups.

They will come from lists provided by the political parties, and will be chosen in proportion to the number of seats obtained by each party.

William Ruto's coalition is also in the lead in the Senate with 24 elected against 23 for Odinga's alliance, but here too 20 senators have yet to be appointed.
