Millions of television viewers were able to see the enthusiasm for themselves.

But in football, the truth lies on the pitch, in this case on Römerberg and neighboring Paulsplatz and Mainkai.

And there the celebration of Eintracht Frankfurt's Europa League victory in May cost a good 1.3 million euros, reports Hessischer Rundfunk.

The organizational talent of Tourismus + Congress GmbH Frankfurt (TCF) is required for such major events.

Managing Director Thomas Feda confirms that the sum is sufficient, even if a few invoices are still missing.

It was also true that a video screen had been damaged.

No amount can be given here if the insurance does not pay anyway.

The 1.3 million euros would not only have to cover the expenses for 600 private security guards.

Numerous site fences would have had to be erected and dismantled again, and the entire logistics, the medical service and also the subsequent cleaning and garbage disposal would have had an impact, according to Feda.

The celebration after winning the DFB Cup was even cheaper in 2018 at 500,000 euros.

But one is related to the other, he says.

"We learned a lot back then," says Feda, emphasizing that the 70,000 people who stood on the Römerberg and the surrounding area in 2018 were only half as many as this time.

"We had an elaborate security concept drawn up for up to 200,000 people." After all, you can't just be prepared for a minimal variant.

And after 50,000 Frankfurters had already traveled to Seville, a large rush was expected.

Video walls were set up on the Roßmarkt and on the Rathenauplatz in order to draw crowds of visitors there if necessary.

"In 2018 we had three video walls, this time there were eight."

The development shows that Eintracht Frankfurt has gained in popularity - which also pleases the tourism industry.

"The images from May and the hours of live broadcasts are priceless in promoting the city," says Feda.

"We are still asked about it everywhere." Unlike a city like Hamburg, Frankfurt as a brand is not "emotionally charged." Eintracht's success changed that.

The club covers about 300,000 euros of the costs of the Europa League festival, the main office is responsible for the rest, which, like the TCF, falls under the responsibility of Mayor Peter Feldmann (SPD).

The city of Frankfurt does not simply have one million euros left over either, and so they are now looking in all departments for money that will not be spent this year.

It is still unclear where the sum will be taken from in detail, according to the finance department.

There may be a budget item in Munich for FC Bayern's annual championship celebration.

In Frankfurt, on the other hand, a success for Eintracht on the European stage falls under the heading of “unscheduled expenses” from a budgetary point of view.
