Warnings of dangerous floods and thunderstorms in Britain

The British Met Office has warned that severe flooding is expected to sweep parts of Britain amid thunderstorms in the country.

This comes as Thames Water, which supplies water to 15 million people, is imposing a hose ban next week, saying water levels in its tanks are "much lower than normal," British news agency PA Media reported.

The Met Office issued a yellow level thunderstorm warning for much of southeast England, including parts of London, from 1100 am to 1000 pm on Wednesday, meaning residents should expect flooding and disturbances.

"It is possible that rapidly flowing water or deep flood waters may pose a threat to life," the warning read.

Floods are likely to damage homes and workplaces quickly, as rainfall can reach between 30 mm and 50 mm in an hour, while a few places are likely to record more than 100 mm in a few hours.

Forecasters say this could lead to trains and buses being canceled amid difficult driving conditions, power outages and areas cut off from the roads.
