UAE congratulates Kenya on the success of the electoral process

The UAE congratulated the Republic of Kenya on the success of the electoral process and William Ruto's victory in the country's presidential elections, wishing the president success and achieving all that the friendly Kenyan people aspire to progress and prosperity.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation indicated that the UAE and the Republic of Kenya have strong relations in all fields, stressing its keenness to strengthen the frameworks of cooperation between the two countries to broader horizons, in order to achieve the aspirations of the two friendly countries and peoples.

In Washington, the United States called for "calm and patience" in Kenya, where the losing candidate in the presidential elections, Raila Odinga, announced his rejection of the result that gave victory to his rival, outgoing Vice President William Ruto.

"We call on all concerned parties to work together peacefully to resolve outstanding issues, and to do so by following existing dispute resolution mechanisms," State Department spokesman Ned Price said.

"We urge the leaders of all political parties to continue calling on their supporters not to resort to violence," he added during a press conference.

Price said that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, returning from a tour of Africa, spoke Sunday with outgoing Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta and urged him to "calm and be patient" during the electoral process.

Six days after the elections that took place quietly on August 9, Kenya's Electoral Commission announced on Monday evening that outgoing Vice President Ruto won with 50.49 percent of the vote compared to 48.85% for Raila Odinga.
