Tik Tok bans videos of political figures before the US elections

The management of the Tik Tok video site has decided to ban influencers from posting paid political content, as part of the steps the site is taking to protect it from misinformation ahead of the 2022 US midterm elections.

Eric Hahn, director of TikTok's safety department, said on Wednesday that although the site does not allow any political ads, the 2020 elections showed a challenge in defining influencers, especially on the rules around paid content.

He added that any political content published for a fee and monitored by the company will be deleted.

They noted that for all users, video posts related to politics or elections will remain on the app, as long as they follow the platform's rules, and are not related to acts such as spreading misinformation about voting, and advocating abuse of those involved in organizing elections.

He explained that videos that violate the rules will be banned from wide distribution until the completion of their evaluation.
