It is the Riksdag Administration that owns the block where several shops, restaurants and the Chancellery Annex have their premises.

- We need to replace the electricity, refurbish the facades and adapt the premises for modern operations, says Slavica Mladenovic who is interim property manager at the Riksdag administration.

Stores must move

In some of the medieval houses there are beautiful beams and unique plaster paintings from the 17th and 18th centuries.

But the premises do not meet today's requirements for accessibility and security.

Therefore, the block is now being emptied of tenants.

- We have been in the same place for 122 years, so it feels sad to move, says Johan Löfqvist, who is a store manager in one of the Old Town's oldest stores.

The sign outside the old fishing tackle shop was originally painted by a famous Swedish artist born in Gamla stan.
