On top of a large stone boulder, the “Ein Bubin” spring is located to the northeast of the village of “Deir Ibzi’,” located west of Ramallah in the central West Bank, surrounded by green agricultural areas, which are the only outlet for the village’s 3000 residents.

“Ein Bubin” spring is one of the largest springs in the Ramallah governorate, where water comes out from a hole in the ground and pours into an ancient storage pond, which is visited by the people of the village for hiking, roaming and swimming, especially in light of the occupation’s deprivation of the residents of the West Bank from entering the occupied Palestinian cities, and enjoying With sea water in Haifa, Acre, and Jaffa.

At a distance of 1,700 meters from the entrances to the historic “Ein Bubin”, the occupation soldiers set up an iron gate, in order to make it easier for them to prevent citizens from accessing the green areas of Al-Ain for hiking and recreation, and to restrict the movement of farmers on their way to the neighboring agricultural lands, to take care of their agricultural crops, in addition to bee farms. Which is the source of livelihood for many of the population.

Allegations and assaults

Not only that, around the clock, the settlers storm the “Ein Bubin” area, which is classified as an evergreen tourist area, with its trees, planting and water springs, to control it completely, and prevent the people from using it or recreation there, expelling the farmers, and depriving them of entering their lands, In front of the soldiers who are there to provide full protection to the residents of Dolb settlement, perched on the lands of Deir Ibzi’, while carrying out attacks against its residents and their only park.

The former head of the village council of Deir Ibzi' village, Naim Jaawan, explains that the settlers' harassment and attacks against the village have been intensifying for three years, and since three months their intensity has become unbearable, as it is being carried out daily, under the protection of the Israeli army, against the residents and farmers.

Jawan told "Emirates Today", in an exclusive interview, that settlers have flocked to the "Ain Bubin" area since the beginning of this summer in the form of large groups, numbering more than 200 settlers, after they stormed it in the form of individuals.

He added, “The settlers storm the water spring and swim in the pond located next to the eye, on the pretext that it is sacred. They also prevent citizens and farmers from reaching (Ein Bubin) absolutely on Friday and Saturday. They also installed the occupation flags on metal plates in the (Ein Bubin) area. .

The former head of the village council describes the scenes of the storming of the village and its only natural outlet, with armed intrusion, as well as what resembles the curfew that was used in the first Palestinian intifada in 1987.

Jaawan continues: “The settlers, who are armed with weapons, storm the village at all times, using cars, “agricultural tractors,” or bicycles and motorcycles, and they sit around the pond with the intent of vexing the residents of the village and the neighboring villages, who come to the place to picnic or take care of their agricultural orchards.”

The settlers claim that “Ain Bubin” was named in the Jewish books, so they are trying to Judaize its name, so that it becomes “Ain Dani”, which is the name of the settler who was killed in the same place several years ago, but according to historical accounts, the name of Al Ain is Canaanite in origin, and that The area surrounding Al-Ain is archaeological, as it is surrounded by a group of ruins and caves that were used in ancient times and ages, according to Jawan.

He asserts that the real goal of storming Deir Ibzi' and attacking its residents is to bring about a gradual change by the occupation, targeting the geography of the "Ain Bubin" site, in order to build facilities around the water springs and rehabilitate them for tourism for settlers, and to create entertainment facilities in them, until total control is achieved.

targeting and denial

The area of the village is 15,000 dunams, 72% of which are under the occupation’s security and administrative control, because it is located in Area C, according to the classification of the “Oslo Agreement”, and large areas of it were confiscated for the establishment of the “Dolb” settlement, perched on the lands of Deir Ibzi’, along with Agricultural areas, the owners of which are prohibited by the occupation from entering, or even accessing, under the pretext that they are close to the settlement borders.

The former head of the Deir Ibzi village council indicates that the water of the Ain Bubin spring constitutes the food basket for more than 35 Palestinian families who subsist on agriculture, to provide a livelihood for their members, noting that the area irrigated from the ancient water of Al Ain, planted with citrus trees, pomegranates, and vegetables Of all kinds, about 30 dunums.

However, this did not live up to the occupation, which deliberately targets the owners of agricultural lands and deprives them of their only source of livelihood, as the settlers permanently attack the farmers of Deir Ibzi’, under the protection of the Israeli forces, who force the Palestinians to leave their land, in response to the desire of the Dolab settlers. in control of the place.

Jaawan says: "Israeli harassment and attacks prevent farmers from reaping their agricultural crops, as settlers put toxic chemicals in the spring's eye openings, to prevent farmers from using the spring's water to irrigate their agricultural crops."

To complement their plan to control the only natural breathing space in Deir Ibzi', the settlers carry out acts of tampering and sabotage against farmers' properties, including burning agricultural arbours, and smashing water hoses.

Jaawan notes that the settlers, with the protection of the occupation soldiers, are deliberately targeting the Al-Ain Canaanite area. Daily.
