In its major member survey, the municipal trade union asked 10,000 assistant nurses, care assistants and children's nurses throughout the country how they feel about staffing in their workplace.

Among those who responded to the survey and work in elderly care, there is a clear perception that staffing is far too low.

- Three out of five respondents in elderly care in Norrbotten answer that staffing is so low that it poses a risk for the elderly.

And it looks similar in the rest of the country, says Kommunal's chairman Malin Ragnegård.

Considers that development is going backwards

Although the conclusions after the pandemic were that care for the elderly needs to be strengthened, the development has not moved forward - but rather backwards, according to Kommunal.

- The municipalities are clearly unable to cope with this responsibility.

Now it has gone so far that we in Kommunal require national guidelines for staffing, says Malin Ragnegård.
