Republican Representative Liz Cheney (Donald Trump's archenemy) was defeated in the race for her party's nomination for re-election as the representative of her state of Wyoming, which was won by Harriet Heigman, who was backed by the former president.

Cheney, 56, has become one of Trump's staunchest enemies since joining a parliamentary committee investigating the former president's role in the Jan. 6, 2021 attack by a mob of supporters on the Capitol.

In a speech acknowledging her defeat by Hegman, the daughter of former US Vice President Dick Cheney vowed to "do whatever it takes" to prevent Trump from being reelected.

"I have said since January 6 that I will do whatever it takes to ensure that Donald Trump never comes close to the Oval Office again, and I mean it," she added.

The Republican billionaire was quick to welcome the defeat of his enemy.

On the social media platform founded by Truth Social, Trump wrote that Cheney should "be ashamed of herself, the way she's acting."

"Now, it can finally fall into political oblivion," the former president added.

In an ultra-conservative state where more than 70% of its voters voted for Trump in the last presidential election, Harriet Heigman supports the theory espoused by Trump supporters that the 2020 election was "stolen" from the former president, despite countless evidence that these allegations are not true.
