The US Department of Defense "Pentagon" announced that the United States, South Korea and Japan participated in defense exercises to warn of missiles and search for and track ballistic missiles off the coast of Hawaii, while the US military conducted a test of an intercontinental ballistic missile.

The exercises, which took place from August 8 to 14, demonstrated the three countries' commitment to responding to the challenges posed by North Korea, protecting common security and strengthening the rules-based international order, the Pentagon said in a statement.

In a related context, officials said yesterday that the South Korean and US forces plan to conduct initial exercises this week before their annual joint exercises, which include field exercises.

The exercises will last four days and focus on crisis management, in the run-up to the "Ulci Freedom Shield" exercise, which is scheduled to run from next Monday until September 1, according to Yonhap News Agency.

The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff stressed that the regular exercises are defensive in nature as they are aimed at enhancing the joint combat readiness of the allies.

Yesterday, the US military announced that it had conducted a test of the "Minuteman 3" intercontinental ballistic missile, the launch of which was postponed to avoid an escalation of tension with China during its maneuvers near Taiwan this month.

"The test demonstrates the readiness of the US nuclear forces and provides confidence in the lethality and effectiveness of the United States' nuclear deterrence," the military said in a statement.

Last April, the US military canceled a test of its Minuteman 3 intercontinental ballistic missile, which was to reduce nuclear tension with Russia during its ongoing war in Ukraine.

The Minuteman 3 missile, which is capable of carrying a nuclear weapon, is an important weapon in the US military's strategic arsenal, as this missile has a range of more than 9,660 km and can fly at a speed of close to 24,000 km per hour.

These missiles are kept in underground bunkers in separate places under the management of the launch crews, and Russia and the United States have the largest arsenals of nuclear warheads after the Cold War.

In addition, the commander of the US Navy in Asia criticized what he described as the dangerous measures taken by Chinese warplanes, and reiterated the United States' complaint about behaviors that officials believe may lead to a clash.

And according to what was reported by "Bloomberg" news agency, the commander of the US Navy's Seventh Fleet - based in Japan - Carl Thomas, expressed yesterday his concern about the increasing efforts by the Chinese army to intercept military aircraft of America and its allies in the Pacific sky.

Thomas referred to the firing of flares near the planes and the narrowing of the distances between them as they passed, describing this as a risky act.

"There is an increase in what we consider to be unsafe, unprofessional or non-standard interceptions, which are not only American planes, but also those of our allies and partners... What caught our attention was the provocative nature," the US commander told reporters in Singapore, where the United States participated in regional exercises. for interception operations.
