The shooting took place on a tram in the Majorna district of Gothenburg on Tuesday morning.

A man in his 60s is suspected of having shot a woman in her 30s in the abdomen.

A couple of hours later, the man was arrested and initially arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and aggravated weapons offences.

The criminal classification has now been changed and the man is now suspected of aggravated assault causing bodily harm and aggravated weapons offences.

"Not on purpose"

According to prosecutor Niklas Högdén, what has emerged so far in the investigation indicates that it was an accident.

- At the moment, we do not suspect that it was an intentional crime against the victim, but that it is a crime of negligence in that sense, he says.

What makes you think it's an accident?

- This is the overall investigation picture that has emerged so far.

For example, there is no connection whatsoever between victim and perpetrator.

Then there are also other circumstances that have led to that assessment, says Niklas Högdén.

Högdén does not want to go into more detail about what other circumstances are the basis for the assessment.

- The investigation must show what has happened.

I have high hopes that this will be investigated fairly well.
