Today, Tuesday, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu renewed his call for a settlement between the Syrian regime and the opposition, after a similar call he made last week that sparked anti-Turkish demonstrations in areas controlled by the opposition factions in Syria.

He stressed that he did not use the term reconciliation between the Syrian regime and the opposition, but rather said that "a settlement of the crisis must be reached."

At the same time, he blamed the Syrian regime for the failure of all initiatives.

He said that the regime's rejectionist position is the main reason for the failure of all initiatives so far. The regime does not believe in a political solution, but in a military solution, but a permanent solution can only be achieved through a political solution.

He added, "This is what we have been saying from the beginning, and we always stress what has been mentioned in United Nations resolutions on the sovereignty of Syrian territory and its borders."

He stressed that it is necessary to reach a settlement between the regime and the opposition to achieve all the goals of the Constitutional Committee.

Regarding his brief meeting with the Syrian Foreign Minister, Faisal Miqdad, on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Movement meeting held last October in the Serbian capital Belgrade, Cavusoglu explained that the meeting took place during his meeting with ministers of other countries before the meal.

During the meeting with the Minister of the Regime, he stressed the need to take the necessary steps, including with regard to the constitutional committee to achieve lasting peace in Syria, in addition to Turkey's great support for the territorial integrity of Syria.

Last Friday, demonstrations took place in northern Syria to protest against statements by Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu calling for reconciliation with the Syrian regime.

Al-Jazeera correspondent said that the demonstrators affirmed that the best solution for lasting peace in Syria passes through holding the regime that killed hundreds of thousands and displaced millions accountable, as they put it.

The protesters also rejected any talk of reconciliation, as it is considered a surrender and a return to the political and security situation that Syria was in before the revolution, they said.

The demonstrators carried banners rejecting any reconciliation or normalization with the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and calling for its overthrow, while protesters in Idlib called for the opening of the fighting fronts against the Syrian regime forces.

A Turkish soldier was killed and 4 others wounded

On the other hand, the Turkish governor of Şanlıurfa, Salih Ayhan, announced, on Tuesday, the killing of a Turkish soldier and the wounding of 4 others, in an attack on a border post in the Bircik district of the state adjacent to the Syrian territories.

In a statement to Anadolu Agency, Ayhan said that what he described as terrorist organizations carried out an attack on a Turkish border post from the Syrian side in the morning.

He added that the Turkish forces stationed on the border responded in kind to the sources of the fire.

He pointed out that the competent authorities transferred the injured soldiers to the hospital, indicating that their health condition is good.

Earlier today, 4 mortar shells landed on empty land in Gaziantep, southern Turkey, fired from northern Syria.
