In the video above, he explains why.

A little outside the village of Öster-Övsjö there are plans for 17 wind turbines and here in the village there are many who are in favor of a possible establishment.

It became clear at the end of 2021 when Bräcke municipality first rejected the wind power plans.

Resident challenged refusal

At the time, 19 residents and landowners wrote a citizens' proposal to the municipality in which they questioned the refusal.

They made it clear that they actually wanted wind power.

They believed that it would bring both jobs and investments and thus give the village hope for the future.

A few months later, the municipal council changed the decision and the wind power plans were given the green light.

Worried about the future of the forest

One of those who wrote the letter is the entrepreneur and forest owner Bengt-Johnny Johansson.

As a forest owner, he worries about what a warmer climate could mean.

- The forest does not have time to adapt.

It will be a worse forest which will, for example, be attacked by spruce bark beetle and various fungi.

It will be drier and more fires and it is not fun to be a forester when you see that future.

Receive financial compensation

His hope is therefore that wind power will contribute to climate change.

At the same time, he does not hide that there is an economic aspect.

If he leases out land, he receives compensation.

- I don't know what it will be in the end.

It is a percentage of production, he says.

But it's money he also says will go straight back into the forest.

- With that money, I can adapt my forest to the climate in a completely different way.

Then I can afford it, he says.

Is on the Center Party's list

The climate issue has now also made Bengt-Johnny Johansson choose to get involved politically again.

Many years ago he was involved in what was then the People's Party.

Ahead of this year's election, he is on the Center Party's list.
