The fire season is far from over, but the climate should be milder according to Météo-France.

“During this week, new rains will affect the entire territory and will bring much more usual conditions to the national territory”, explains Sylvain Chave, of Predict Services.

The lull is confirmed on the fire front in France, particularly in Gironde and in the Landes.

The rain has returned, the flames are under control and the inhabitants return to their homes.

The firefighters who can therefore breathe a little, those who face a sadly remarkable summer with nearly 62,000 hectares gone up in smoke since June.

“During this week, new rains will affect the entire territory and will bring much more usual conditions to the national territory”, explains Sylvain Chave, from the subsidiary of Météo-France, Predict Services.

“That is to say lower temperatures, and a higher humidity level,” he explains.

Less risk of fire

"All of this is favorable to reducing the risk of forest fires, especially in areas outside the Mediterranean, which are much less used to these phenomena," continues Sylvain Chave.

According to him, by the end of the month, "we can count on drier periods and later in September with more present humidity and rains which return to completely normal values".

Thus, "gradually, an end to the forest fire season is looming, in any case as being much more usual".
