General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized: "To grasp innovation is to grasp development, and to seek innovation is to seek the future." Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, my country has taken innovation as the primary driving force for development, and has comprehensively implemented the innovation-driven development strategy, which has been achieved in many areas of innovation. A major breakthrough has made it into the ranks of innovative countries.

  From 2013 to the present, China has launched a number of high-resolution satellites. Using the photos taken by these satellites, subtle changes in China's territory can be observed.

  Through the continuous observation of high-resolution satellites, we found that in the past few years, Qianhai, Shenzhen has been one of the areas with the greatest changes in urban spatial form in China.

  In 2012, it was still a muddy tidal flat; in ten years, buildings with innovative codes have continued to thrive.

  Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Youth Dream Workshop, where 601 entrepreneurial teams from Shenzhen and Hong Kong have completed incubation, of which 331 are from Hong Kong;

  Less than 2 kilometers away from DreamWorks, it is Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong International Financial City. Within a year of its launch, 195 financial institutions have signed up here;

  Not far away, the China (Shenzhen) Intellectual Property Protection Center has nearly 500 patent applications completed every working day on average.

  The increasingly perfect innovation system drives the rapid economic development of Qianhai.

In 2021, this piece of land is only 120 square kilometers, and the regional GDP created has reached 175.57 billion yuan.

  Zooming in to the whole country, in ten years, the number of national independent innovation demonstration zones has increased from 3 to 23, and the number of high-tech enterprises has increased from 49,000 more than a decade ago to 330,000 in 2021.

  Today, a search for the word "innovation" on navigation software yields a total of more than 50,000 destinations.

In the past ten years, they have accelerated from being mainly distributed in the eastern coast to the central and western regions, and now they have spread all over the country.

  The vitality of innovation is surging and strong, where does the power come from?

  We collected the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" and "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" science and technology plans of 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities, and conducted data analysis on the texts of more than 1.5 million words in 62 documents. 3,484 times during the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" period soared to 7,793 times during the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan" period; the frequency of occurrence of "basic research" increased from 184 times to 300 times.

  In the past ten years, my country's investment in basic research has increased year by year. In 2021, it is 3.4 times that of 2012, accounting for the highest proportion of R&D investment in the whole society.

  The country's unprecedented emphasis on basic research has promoted the accelerated implementation of large scientific installations.

Satellite images bear witness to this decade of change.

  This is the Shanghai Zhangjiang Science City. In the past ten years, more than 10 major scientific installations such as the Shanghai Light Source and the National Protein Science Research Facility have been launched.

In the Xihe Laser Facility of the Shanghai Institute of Optics and Mechanics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the researchers adopted a number of innovative solutions to obtain the current international electron beam with the highest brightness and lowest energy dispersiveness.

Wang Wentao, a researcher at the Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences:

Based on this research, the photonic large scientific device can be compressed to the size of a desktop, realizing a leap-forward development from following to leading.

  In 2014, Sichuan Tianfu New Area was approved as a national-level new area. Today, 25 national-level scientific research institutes have settled here, and the first national supercomputing center in the western region has been put into operation.

Li Jiajia, director of the operation and maintenance department of the National Supercomputing Center in Chengdu: The

computing power can reach one billion billion times per second, and the host performance ranks among the top ten in the world.

  Wuhan, Hubei, China Optics Valley, ten years ago, there was only a small cave laboratory under the Yu family mountain.

Today, large scientific devices including the experimental device of pulsed strong magnetic field and a number of national key laboratories have been put into use. In the precision gravity measurement research facility, the scientific research team has developed the highest-precision space inertial sensor in China.

Breaking the foreign technology blockade, successfully conducted many in-orbit tests such as the Tianzhou-1 cargo spacecraft and the Tianqin-1 satellite.

  Today, China's ranking in the Global Innovation Index has risen from 34th in 2012 to 12th in 2021.

The construction of high-speed railways and 5G networks leads the world, and major breakthroughs have been made in the fields of manned spaceflight and Mars exploration. The scale of new energy vehicles and new display industries ranks first in the world.

  Innovation is not only profoundly changing China, but also leading China to stride forward into the future.
