After the staff raised the alarm that it was very hot in Kvarngården's special accommodation, they received a protocol in which they wrote down the temperature.

In an apartment, which is located on the upper floor with windows to the south, according to the staff's notes, it was 28 degrees several afternoons during a week in July.

- I don't think it's humane.

We would like to have awnings so that it would dampen the heat indoors, says Carina Arnoldsson, who is a security officer at Kvarngården.

Both staff and residents are affected

Both the staff's working environment and the well-being of the elderly are negatively affected by the heat.

- The residents get tired, sleep a lot and become short of breath.

The staff primarily wants awnings in connection with common areas and on, for example, the patio on the south side.

The latter would make it more pleasant to stay outdoors when it's hot.

The portable air conditioning units and parasols bought in are good but not enough, according to the staff.

Linnéa and other elderly people have to pay extra for awnings

According to the municipality of Växjö, work is underway to put up awnings on special residences in the municipality.

But right now they can't answer where Kvarngården lies in that priority.

If the individual tenants want awnings in their apartments, according to Vidingehem, which owns the property, this would increase the utility value of the apartments and thus also the rent.

91-year-old Linnéa Johannesson would like to have awnings on her apartment.

- Yes, it is clear that it is good.

But I don't have an awful lot of money to mess around with, she says to SVT Småland.
