The Russian Navy in 2024 and 2025 will receive the frigates of the modernized project 22350 "Admiral Amelko" and "Admiral Chichagov".

Igor Orlov, General Director of the Severnaya Verf enterprise, announced this at the Army-2022 forum.

“Both frigates continue to manufacture sections and form hulls, work is underway to conclude contracts for the supply of equipment and mechanisms.

The general director of Severnaya Verf also said that the company has 24 buildings at various stages of construction.

Among them are six frigates of project 22350 and a modernized project 22350 and four corvettes.

All of these ships are carriers of guided missile weapons, and eight of them will be armed with Caliber-NK cruise missiles.

Igor Orlov also said that by the end of 2022, Severnaya Verf intends to transfer the Admiral Golovko frigate of project 22350 to the Russian Navy.

Project 22350 frigates are multi-purpose ships of the first rank with guided missile weapons for the far sea and ocean zone.

They were developed by the Northern Design Bureau (SPKB) in the early 2000s, the construction of the lead frigate began in 2006.

The ships of this project became the first large surface combat vessels laid down at Russian shipyards after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

The lead ship "Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov" became part of the Northern Fleet in 2018.

The second ship of the project, the Admiral of the Fleet Kasatonov, joined the Navy in 2020.

The developers of project 22350 note that the ships are not inferior in their main characteristics and combat capabilities, and surpass their foreign counterparts in a number of indicators.

In turn, the state corporation Rostec emphasizes that these frigates of the “admiral” series are carriers of the most advanced weapons and equipment.

The total displacement of the ships of the project is 4.5 thousand tons, the length is 135 m. The frigate is capable of speeds of 29 knots (about 54 km / h).

Project 22350 ships are designed to solve a wide range of tasks in the far sea and ocean zone.

The arsenal of frigates allows them to provide air defense of other ships, support landing forces, strike at various land and sea targets, and carry out anti-submarine defense.

The main strike weapons of the "admiral" frigates are from two to four universal ship firing systems (UKKS) for eight Caliber-NK or Onyx missiles each.

In addition to missile armament, the Project 22350 frigate is equipped with the A-192M Armat 130-mm artillery mount, the 3M89 Broadsword anti-aircraft system, the 91R2 anti-submarine system and the Paket-NK anti-torpedo system.

In addition, the frigate has a helicopter deck, which can accommodate Ka-27 anti-submarine helicopters.

It is worth noting that the lead ship of the project "Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov" has repeatedly taken part in the testing of the latest hypersonic anti-ship missile "Zirkon".

In Russia, work is also underway to create frigates as part of the improved project 22350M.

In September last year, Vladimir Korolev, deputy general director of the United Shipbuilding Corporation (USC) for military shipbuilding, announced that the lead frigate of project 22350M would be laid down in 2024.

The USC functionary specified that work on the technical design of the ship is planned to be completed in 2023.
