• The investigation of the Medusa Two complaints of the injured and strict reviews in a sector "under pressure"

The management of the Cullera

Medusa Festival

, in which a 22-year-old died and four others remain hospitalized with serious injuries, has published a statement in which it complies with all regulations and that the collapse of part of the structures was caused due to an "unpredictable weather phenomenon".

In addition, they assure that they are "the main interested in elucidating what happened, responding to those affected and purging responsibilities, if any."

The organizers reiterate that the festival complied with "all the regulations contemplated in the laws and applicable to the celebration of this type of event" and that it had the approval of a security board that previously inspected the venue on the morning of Tuesday, March 9. August and in which the Government Delegation, municipal authorities and technicians, members of the Civil Guard and the State Security Corps, in charge of the Violet Point and the Medusa Festival security services were present.

"According to the information available to the authorities and the organization of the Medusa Festival, at no time was it foreseen that a virulent phenomenon could occur in the municipality of Cullera and neighboring towns that could endanger the integrity of the people present during the night of the August 12, 2022 and the early morning of August 13, 2022", they remember.

The information they have, and which they have sent to the Sueca court that is directing the investigation, makes them defend that the accident that caused the death of the young man from Daimiel and that keeps a 19-year-old girl in the ICU due to a spinal fracture It was due to an "unpredictable meteorological phenomenon of devastating characteristics that caused numerous deteriorations in the infrastructure of the venue and that, they recognize, in celebration of the Medusa Festival and in various decorative elements. Some of these elements caused damage to those attending the event," they point out in a statement.

The organizers recall that the decision to cancel the festival was made after learning of the death of one of the attendees for three reasons: "the opening of a judicial investigation on Saturday morning, in which the court orders to perimeter areas of the venue to investigate what happened" and "out of respect for those affected and their families", as well as because, in this case, the weather forecasts "point to the possibility of a new thermal blowout", the statement continues.

According to the organizers, the technicians of the Cullera City Council also discouraged the continuation of the festival "until a new review of all the technical installations is carried out by the Administrative Certification Body (OCA) and of the technical teams of the assembly companies to check whether, in addition to what was observed visually, there were other elements of the enclosure that had been affected".

What they do deny is that the main stage suffered damage.

"Despite the ferocious phenomenon recorded, the structure was only slightly damaged by detaching some decorative elements typical of a fallero monument. The fallen pieces slightly injured a small number of attendees," they specify.

The organization recalls that it has provided all the evacuees with mattresses in the covered pavilion in Cullera to rest during the time they have been in this space: "They were provided with breakfast, lunch and dinner during the time they were housed there, they have been able to use the changing rooms of the pavilion for their personal hygiene and a mobile device recharging area was set up".

Finally, they indicate that they continue to work on "how to provide a solution to all the public who have not been able to enjoy the event that we all expected" and announce that "everyone will have an answer in a few weeks", for which they ask for "some patience in the face of this exceptional and complicated situation.
