Ministers who warn of attacks, unrest and popular uprisings have to ask themselves what they have done for or against them.

Up to now, not least, the old German welfare state has ensured a sufficiently broad basic security, cushioning and immobilisation.

The Germans, who have experienced a lot, are no longer inclined towards radicalism.

The trick, especially in the traffic light government, which is quite diverse on social issues, is to leave more to hard-working people of any income than to those who only need to be taken care of.

The coalition will not collapse over differences over tax rates, it must give the impression of a just solution.

In the image of standing together conjured up by Chancellor Scholz, every group must find itself reflected.

The will to leave no one behind must be credible.

Known pattern

This applies to the turning point proclaimed in the course of the Ukraine war as well as to the escalating climate crisis.

The only seemingly distant threat from outside, which can entail more and justify completely different obligations, is one thing.

The other is the threat from within by a juvenile activism that does not shy away from exploiting children and endangering lives.

Although it is easier than before to attract attention and mobilize without breaking the law, attacks on infrastructure are considered the gold standard of protest disguised as a common good.

The pattern is well known: the state should be challenged and overreact.

But it is to be hoped that democracy will not be called into question, but a movement that justifies a kind of climate terrorism with noble goals and time pressure.

So far, there has been journalistic care and artistic solidarity primarily for them, but not for injured police officers who are enforcing democratically set rules.

It is also five to twelve for the rule of law.
