With the visit of the five American parliamentarians who

arrived in Taipei yesterday

,

Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen

took the opportunity to reiterate her attachment to the status quo in the Taiwan Strait.

Delighted to meet with @SenMarkey & the bipartisan congressional delegation earlier today.

A reflection of the enduring friendship & ongoing exchanges between #Taiwan & the #US, your visit facilitates stronger, more substantive ties between our countries.

In

Beijing

continues to maintain the pressure, denouncing an attack on the sovereignty and the integrity of its territory.

The Chinese command has announced that it has launched military operations in the sea and airspace around Taiwan.

Fifteen Chinese planes have thus crossed the median line of the strait, which unofficially separates Taiwan from the mainland, and for the past ten days, Chinese exercises have been almost daily.

Nancy Pelosi

's visit to

Taiwanese territory in early August was experienced as a

provocation by Beijing

, which had launched unprecedented military maneuvers in the region, with the simulation of a sea and air blockade of the island.

The powers present are multiplying the warning signals.

Last week, the Chinese government released

a white paper

indicating that the use of force as a last resort was always an option, to bring Taiwan back into its fold.

For its part, Taipei has accused Beijing of taking advantage of Nancy Pelosi's visit to prepare an invasion of the island, a scenario increasingly considered by Taiwan and its 23 million inhabitants.

And, at the end of last week, the United States announced that it wanted to strengthen ties with the nationalist island and prepare an “ambitious roadmap”.
