On the Place de la République in Paris on Monday August 15, a hundred Afghans gathered to demonstrate one year after the return to power of the Taliban in Afghanistan.

A date that pushed women, increasingly deprived of rights, to flee the country and come to France.

Europe 1 met two participants who retraced their history.

This Monday, August 15, a hundred Afghans demonstrated in the center of Paris, a year after the return to power of the Taliban in Afghanistan.

The country is still isolated, and sinks into economic, energy and humanitarian crises.

The UN also called on this day not to forget Afghan women and girls who are increasingly deprived of rights in Afghanistan.

The date of August 15 in the memory of Afghan women

Place de la République, Europe 1 met Atifa.

The 23-year-old, in a white and black t-shirt, held a sign that read, "Afghanistan is suffering, the world is watching, behold the Afghan flag with sadness, serious face."

A year ago, the young Afghan flew to Paris to flee the Taliban.

August 15 is a date that changed his life forever.

"That day, I suddenly gave up everything, I lost everything," she told Europe 1.

"But today, I am very well in France", she continues.

"I'm an artist, I'm free, I'm preparing an exhibition, I'm going to university and I'm learning French. Even if it's being away from family, my heart is still there", adds Atifa.

Stay in Paris to be able to live

A student of political science, Simin also arrived in France last year.

Under her white veil, she recounts, helpless, the new life of the women of her country that she left behind.

"Women no longer have the right to leave their homes without having their faces covered, without the black outfit imposed by the Taliban," she explains.

"More studies, more work, more leisure, more life...", lists Simin, "when I see the life of my friends, of my mother with whom I have kept contact, I cannot stop crying," she says.

"But I'm sure that one day we will win," continues the young Afghan on Europe 1. "We have to continue to fight, to continue to believe in it."

Simin knows that one day she will return to her home near Kabul when the Taliban are gone.

In the meantime, she intends to stay in Paris to have the right to continue living.
