Two days after the British author was stabbed while giving a lecture in New York state in the United States, Salman Rushdie is discharged from emergency care and his condition appears to be improving , according to his agent.

As for his alleged attacker, he appeared in court and pleaded not guilty.

Salman Rushdie's state of health is improving this Sunday morning.

The British writer, violently attacked Friday evening while giving a conference in the United States, was released from emergency care at the Pennsylvania hospital where he is hospitalized.

And in parallel, we begin to know a little more about the identity of his attacker.

Salman Rushdie is no longer on a ventilator.

He talks and he even jokes.

At least that's what another writer, Aatish Taseer, tweeted.

And what was confirmed by Salman Rushdie's agent, without giving more details on the health of the author.

The alleged attacker pleads not guilty

But it is reassuring news even as the investigation into the attack on Salman Rushdie continues.

The alleged attacker, Hadi Matar, a 24-year-old American of Lebanese descent, appeared in court for the first time on Saturday.

He appeared wearing a white and black striped jumpsuit, with a mask over his face.

He is being charged with attempted murder and has pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor spoke of a planned attack.

Hadi Matar had bought his ticket in advance to attend the conference given by Salman Rushdie.

He arrived the day before with a false driving licence, in the name of one of the leaders of Hezbollah.

Examination of his social networks would also have revealed a young man in admiration for the Iranian regime, its Revolutionary Guards and Ayatollah Khomeini, the same one who had put a price on the head of Salman Rushdie by issuing a fatwa in 1989.
