[Global Web Report] Japan's "Yomiuri Shimbun" reported on the 14th that several Japanese government officials revealed that US Vice President Harris plans to attend the state funeral of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe scheduled to be held on September 27. The government is coordinating on this.

If realized, it would be Harris' first visit to Japan since taking office.

The report also stated that the reason for Biden's inability to go to participate was "the inability to coordinate the itinerary."

Shinzo Abe was shot and killed during a speech on the streets of Nara City on July 8. Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida previously announced that a state funeral will be held for Abe on September 27.

However, this decision was opposed by some Japanese people. According to polls by many Japanese media such as Kyodo News, about 50% of the respondents opposed to Abe's state funeral.
