A man committed suicide after crashing into a congressional barricade near the US Capitol in Washington, DC.

Yesterday (14th) at around 4 am local time, a vehicle collided with a barricade installed to prevent vehicles from entering near the Capitol.

A man then got out of the vehicle and the vehicle was engulfed in flames.

The man fired several shots into the air as the police approached, and killed himself with a gun as the police got closer.

The man's identity has not yet been revealed.

Police said the man's actions did not appear to have targeted lawmakers, but said they were conducting an investigation to determine the motive for the crime.

At the time of the incident, the House of Representatives and the Senate were on summer recess, so there were few employees in the Capitol building.

The incident occurred amid strong protests from Trump supporters after the US Federal Bureau of Investigation and the FBI raided the Florida home of former President Donald Trump on charges of smuggling classified documents.

US authorities have warned of possible violent attacks on government buildings.

On the 11th, a gunman was shot and killed while trying to break into the FBI's Cincinnati branch building and then fleeing.

However, it is not known whether the man who rushed into the Capitol is a supporter of former President Trump or whether it is related to a recent raid.
