Tensions are escalating again after a suspected terrorist shooting in Jerusalem came a week after the end of armed clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinian militants.

According to Israeli media, a gunman opened fire at a bus waiting at a signal in the Old City of Jerusalem early on the morning of the 14th local time.

At least seven people were injured in the shooting.

A 35-year-old pregnant woman who was shot in the abdomen and a man with gunshot wounds to the head and neck are said to be in critical condition.

Bus driver Daniel Kaniewski said, "The shooting started after stopping the bus at King David's Tomb Station and opening the wheelchair ramp to pick up the disabled. It was open, so I couldn't move," he said.

The suspect fled in the direction of Silwan, a Palestinian settlement, after the attack, but surrendered within hours of Israeli police pursuits, police said.
