Dehumanization tactics: why Kyiv is trying to convince Western countries to give Russia the status of a sponsor of terrorism

In Kyiv, they said that Ukraine could allegedly defeat Russia if a number of steps were taken.

According to the head of the office of the country's president, Andrei Yermak, we are talking about "the recognition of Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism", a ban on issuing visas to Russians, limiting oil prices, a gas embargo and weapons.

“These steps will help us defeat Russia, destroying its economy, army, and also deprive them of their desire to fight and blackmail the Western world,” he claims in his Telegram channel.

At the same time, according to experts, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is an active promoter of the idea of ​​recognizing Russia as a sponsor of terrorism.

In particular, he made another call to recognize Russia as a "terrorist" in his address on August 12.

Zelensky said that Western countries in this matter need to follow the example of Latvia, which was the first and so far the only one to give the Russian Federation a dubious status.

“A decision was made in Latvia - Latvia officially recognized Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism.

We are working to ensure that the whole world does the same.

This is true.

This is right.

And it will be,” Zelensky said.

At the same time, the Ukrainian president stressed that relations with ordinary Russians should be determined precisely from this point of view.

“You can’t turn Europe into a supermarket where it doesn’t matter who comes in, the main thing is that a person just pays for the goods,” Zelensky said.

At the same time, earlier in an interview with The Washington Post, he made the statement that absolutely all Russian citizens should be banned from entering Europe.

“(Russian citizens should. -

) live in their own world until they change their philosophy,” he said.

Zelensky stressed that no exceptions should be made: “Whatever these Russians are… return them to Russia.”

Recall that Latvia decided to recognize Russia as a “state supporting terrorism” on 11 August.

The document was approved by 67 deputies.

The parliament of the Baltic state also called on the EU countries to immediately suspend the issuance of visas to citizens of the Russian Federation and Belarus.

In Russia, the decision of the Sejm was condemned.

According to the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, the parliamentarians who adopted the corresponding resolution should be called neo-Nazis.

Later that day, the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement calling the actions of the Latvian legislators "a manifestation of Russophobia, which has long become the "tuning fork" of Latvian foreign policy."

“This step of the highest legislative body of Latvia is in gross contradiction with the current international law and violates the principle of the sovereign equality of states, fixed in paragraph 1 of Art.

2 of the UN Charter," the ministry stressed.

At the same time, not everyone in the Sejm supported the assignment of the status of "terrorist" to Russia: 16 people refused to participate in the vote.

In particular, this position was taken by the leader of the Latvian party "Consent", the deputy of the Seimas Janis Urbanovich and his colleagues in the faction.

In a comment to Gazeta.Ru, he stated that the attack against the Russian Federation did not make sense.

“I consider such a statement (the Sejm. -

) to be nothing less than provocative, because in fact it does not harm Russia in any way, does not help Ukraine in any way,” the deputy said.

According to him, the current anti-Russian action will in no way solve internal Latvian problems, “but will only dilute the internal discourse within Latvia even more.”

However, the State Department has so far refrained from unequivocal statements and prefers to avoid answering relevant questions.

In particular, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken at a press conference on July 27 noted that Russia allegedly already bears the costs that were the result of sanctions from the United States and its allies.

According to him, these costs are comparable to the consequences of assigning the status of a sponsor of terrorism to a country.

In a similar vein, on August 11, the deputy head of the press service of the department, Vedant Patel, spoke.

“The US government has already taken a number of meaningful and effective steps, ranging from export control measures to sanctions, including economic consequences,” he said.

The diplomat also recalled the procedure according to which the State Department makes a decision on granting the status to a particular country.

"By law, in order to include a country on the list of states that are sponsors of terrorism, the secretary of state must establish that the government of that country has repeatedly provided support for acts of international terrorism," Patel said.

At the same time, on August 13, the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a warning, warning its American colleagues about the consequences of a possible rash decision on this issue.

And these requirements are even heeded by some Baltic countries such as Latvia.

However, one should not expect hasty decisions from the United States, ”the analyst is sure.

According to him, Russia and the US are the two superpowers responsible for global strategic stability.

“Therefore, there are such red lines that should not be crossed.

This is understood both in Moscow and in Washington.

The Baltic countries are not responsible for strategic stability, so they can take more drastic steps towards Russia,” the political scientist added.

If the West follows the lead of the Kyiv regime and gives Russia the status of a "terrorist", this will cut off the opportunity for it to establish a dialogue with Moscow in the future, Alexey Tokarev noted.

“This is understood, in particular, in the United States.

After all, they still have to negotiate with the Russian Federation on START.

Therefore, they will not completely close communication channels there.

As experts emphasize, the final destruction of relations with Russia is not in the interests of the West.
