The old community center from the 19th century was a primary school until 1940. When the community center association cleaned out storage areas, school desks, lecterns and a slate were found, among other things.

Objects that became excellent props for the theater play about the children who attended the school a hundred years ago.

- The funnest thing is that you get to be reminded of how it was in the past, says Saga Landin, one of the theater school's participants.

Experiences from the past

The plot of the play is based on the experiences of former students, whose stories are documented.

The theater school's participants are children from the village of Bäckmora.

They are between eight and twelve years old and play students about the same age as themselves, but 100 years ago.

Some of the students at the school became grandparents of the children who attend the theater school.

- I get to play my grandfather, it's very fun, says Villgot Dalbrink, another of the theater school's participants.

The theater school has received financial support from the Swedish Cultural Council and the National Association of Municipalities.

Drama teacher Veronica Gyllenhammar from Gävle has been hired as educational leader.
