In his speech in Sölvesborg, Jimmie Åkesson covered everything from fuel prices to welfare.

But it was within criminal policy that the proposals were most numerous and also sharpest.

- There must be an end to petting serious criminals, he says.

Jimmie Åkesson says that security is the most important issue for voters who are afraid of crimes such as humiliation robbery and assault rape.

- In my Sweden, in the Sweden of the Sweden Democrats, it is the criminals who should be afraid, he says.

"Criminal Department"

Crime policy dominates the agenda across the political map ahead of next month's election.

But unlike the other party leaders, Jimmie Åkesson is looking for a "symbolic" name change at the Correctional Service, which he believes should punish instead of only care.

- In order to manifest this shift, we believe that the name of the Correctional Service should be changed to the Criminal Service, he says.

- Symbolic - yes - but clear.

Focus on expulsion

Referring to the fact that foreign citizens who are sentenced to deportation may remain in Sweden, Jimmie Åkesson suggests that they can be placed in prisons in third countries.

- It is not the Swedes' responsibility to finance anything beyond what is absolutely necessary when it comes to criminals who are to be deported after serving their sentence, he says.

- They should be kept locked up, preferably in more cost-effective institutions in, for example, the Baltic countries, until they are physically deported.
