The Civil Guard has confirmed the death of a nine-year-old girl after an accident that occurred in the Jerte River as it passed through the town of Galisteo (Cáceres).

The minor was accompanied by her 44-year-old uncle

, who was fishing around 4:00 p.m. aboard a boat.

At a certain moment, and due to circumstances yet to be clarified, the man touched a high-voltage key with his rod, when he threw it into the water, at which time he suffered a shock and, when he came to after being unconscious, his niece already She was not at his side in said boat, and apparently she was fired.

The girl was considered missing throughout the afternoon, so a search operation was launched that ended with

the discovery of the girl's body near the shore

The wounded man was evacuated by helicopter to

the Virgen del Puerto Hospital in Plasencia

with serious injuries and was later transferred to the La Paz University Hospital in Mérida.

Due to circumstances not yet clarified by the investigation, in one of the movements made by the adult at the time of fishing, the rod touched

an electrical cable, which gave light to the beach bar

in the area.

As a result of the discharge, the adult has been seriously injured by burns and the minor has been missing for several hours, being searched for both on the river bank and inside the channel.

Finally, late in the day, the girl's lifeless body was found near the shore.
