Ukraine wants to evacuate two-thirds before winter

Ukraine aims to evacuate two-thirds of residents from areas before winter.

Partly out of concern that residents won't be able to stay warm because the fighting has destroyed power and heating infrastructure, Deputy Prime Minister Iryna Vereshtjuk said on Thursday.

She added that 52,000 children remain in the Donetsk region.

Although authorities describe the evacuation as "mandatory," residents can opt out by filling out a form declaring their intention to stay.
