In connection with the Sámi conference in Tråante 2017, the process of selecting a Sámi national joik began.

The committee for Sami national symbols later proposed that the joik "Sámiid eatnan duoddariid" composed by Áillohaš - Nils-Aslak Valkeapää, should become the national yoik of the Sami.

Decisions will be made in the next few days

The proposal is to be considered at the Sami conference 2022, which takes place in Gällivare between August 10 and 14.

Ros-Marie Huvva thinks that the choice of jojk is excellent.

- It is already today as our national anthem, although it is not public, says Ros-Marie Huuva, artist and participant during the Sami Conference 2022.

According to the symbol committee, the national anthem must be able to be sung both without text and with part of the text or with the entire text.

The jojk must also be adapted to all Sami languages and jojk traditions.

The committee believes that Áillohaš's jojk clearly conveys the Sami's love for Sápmi.
